Project Description

Empowering Learning

This learning program assists children between the ages of 5 – 8.  It is a preventative approach and supports the parents and child in a unique learning partnership. By working together with Donna, early intervention and quality support results in great progress.

The program provides important tools to beginning readers. Learning techniques and activities are matched to the developmental level of the child.  Through active participation in the program, the parent gains the knowledge and tools needed to continue supporting the child’s learning at home.

Program Includes

The program is delivered over several weeks on a daily basis for a few hours each morning. A parent is required to be present at least 50% of the time. A full Davis Correction Program may be required at a later date, if barriers to learning develop.

As part of the program, clients will receive the Davis Young Learner Kit. Parents will be skilled to continue quality support at home where they will follow up with work after the program.

Unlimited phone and email consultations are provided as required.

Program Benefits

Young learners deserve the best start we can give them. Strong research suggests that children who are exposed to Davis methods at pre-reading or primary level (age 5-8) benefit in the following ways:

  • Provide life skills to establish correct attention, focus and energy level control.
  • Ensure left-to-right eye tracking is established, making reading easier.
  • Through the use of clay, provide the child with certainty and confidence with the alphabet.
  • Introduce reading methods which increase comprehension.
  • Introduce punctuation at an appropriate time when the child comes across it in reading.
  • Provide a way to “know” spelling when sounds cause confusion.
  • Master high frequency words or non picture words, (essential words lists).
  • Provide the young reader with success when developing reading strategies.

The Davis Reading Program for Young Learners is an individualised learning enhancement program with a licensed and trained Davis Facilitator. During the program, Donna will work directly with your child, and at the same time provide hands-on training and guidance to a participating parent or other family member.
