What is Dyscalculia

A specific and persistent difficulty in understanding numerals and general mathematical functions and learning through traditional methods.

Dyscalculia  can lead to a range of difficulties with mathematics. It occurs across all ages,  abilities and levels of education and experience.

Typical symptoms could include:

  • High levels of mathematics anxiety.
  • Slow at doing calculations.
  • Difficulty with addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.
  • Difficulty with correct sequencing, number reversals or substitutions.
  • Problems with place value, times tables, decimals, fractions, counting money, & telling time.
  • A poor sense of numbers & estimation.
  • Can give answers orally, but unable to show workings.
Dyscalculia

Dyscalculia can exist on its own, but it often co-exists with other specific learning difficulties.
